WOD & Me Vs. Crock Pot Chicken Teriyaki

I know I’ve said this before, and I will probably say this again.  But I got back up on the horse and worked out today.  No more laziness.  That’s gotta be worth something.  I made time for it.  You’ll see how below.
If you remember from my post here, they upped the minimum age for the child care.  So it’s pretty much screwing me for the next 13 months.

Instead, I came across these quick workouts that I could do at home.  You know what Tabata is, right?  Basically, you go hard at it with minimal rest.  I did my workout in 5 minutes!  But I am also pooped.  For a couple of reasons, but we will only acknowledge the one where I went hard for each segment.

If you find yourself in a rut with your workout or you don’t have an hour or so to dedicate to a workout, Tabata is a good alternative.
I am so glad that I came across Britton’s post.  She inspired me to get sweaty today.  Check out her post on 5 different Tabata workouts here.
Crock Pot Chicken Teriyaki
It is in the crock pot as I type, but I have a feeling this is not going to turn out right.  It bugs me terribly!  I have yet to be the reigning champion over this recipe.  I swear, this is probably the third or fourth time I have attempted to make Crock Pot Chicken Teriyaki with no success.  It’s a little ridiculous, but I refuse to give up.

And as I am typing this, I discovered that the blog where I found this recipe has been removed.  Just my luck.  I printed off the recipe instead of pinning it so I was trying to get the link for you.

Anyway, I pinned another chicken teriyaki recipe which is pretty darn close to it.

The only difference here is that this recipe does not call for corn starch, and there is no option to use soy sauce instead of teriyaki.

(I have tried both teriyaki and soy sauce with the corn starch as a thickening agent, about 2 teaspoons out of uncertainty.)

So my friends, it will soon be time to cut off the crock pot and prepare dinner.  I’m really not happy with the way it is looking right now.  This is the reason I have not posted any pictures, 3-4 attempts in, haha!
It never tastes bad, but I’d like for the sauce to be a tad bit thicker.  More “saucier” so to speak.  More corn starch I suppose?  I’m out on a limb here, my friends.  Can I get a life line?

Here I am rambling about my chicken teriyaki sadness, so frustrated that this recipe keeps stumping me.  How is your Monday so far?  Hopefully not as frustrating as a silly crock pot dish.

  1. I'm glad you found the Tabata recipes helpful! Thank you for sharing the post! I LOVE making meals in the crock-pot, but my husband doesn't like them so much! I've also tried a teriyaki chicken in it and it didn't turn out right! Mine was too sweet and runny. I'm a new follower now, can't wait to check back soon!

  2. Yep, the recipe turned out exactly that – runny. It was a little on the salty side, but maybe I left it in the crock pot too long. Chicken was tender though! Eh. I am not impressed, yet again.

Yay! Thanks for following! Looking forward to trying another Tabata workout.

  3. Yes! I won't say it's easy, but it is really quick. There are lots of different Tabata workouts out there, or you can create your own. I've done that before. And if there is a movement you don't know how to do, Youtube is GREAT for finding out how.

The chicken was alright. A little on the salty side this time. But it was tender, and the husband said he really liked it. Hmm…I'm a little suspicious here. Haha!

  4. I got it! And I'm feeling it today too. All good pains though. It just means I made progress. 🙂

It was alright. The sauce was runny. Chicken was a little salty. BUT it was edible. The husband said it was good, but isn't it their job to? Haha!

  5. Hhhmmm…Yep, I say add a little more corn starch next time and see if that helps for a thicker sauce. I really want to see pics. Glad it was edible. =0)
